Award of the Firefighter Medal for Distinguished Service
Honors firefighters who have distinguished
themselves by the excellence of their work
Montreal, March 29, 2018 – The City of Montreal will honor the Firefighters and Firefighters of the Montreal Fire Department (MIS) who distinguished themselves by the excellence of their work during two ceremonies on March 29 and April 5. The Distinguished Service Firefighter Medal is a high-awarding decoration awarded to Canadian firefighters who, for 20 years or more, have distinguished themselves by the excellence of their work.
“The Distinguished Service Firefighter Medal is awarded to members of the Montreal Fire Safety Service who, for decades, have performed their work with skill, courage and commitment. I congratulate them and assure them of the pride of giving them this important honor, “said the Honorable Michel Doyon, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec.
“There is no better job than saving lives. You have devoted yours, against all dangers, and you have distinguished yourself by the excellence of your work. For that, you deserve the full respect of the whole community. The Montreal Fire Department can be proud to count you in its ranks. You are honoring the firefighter profession, “Nathalie Goulet, head of public safety, told the executive committee.
“The Distinguished Service Medal Ceremony is an event filled with pride not only for the winners and their families, but also for the entire staff of the Montreal Fire Department. Your determination, dedication and efficiency, combined with your impeccable behavior, make you models for the SIM. These are values that inspire us and drive us to fulfill our mission, “said Bruno Lachance, Director of SIM.
Distinguished services are defined by irreproachable conduct and work done with dedication and efficiency. Established on August 29, 1985, the Distinguished Service Firefighter’s Medal is awarded by the Canadian Chancellery of Honors. Because of its official character, the award of the medal is an unparalleled honor. This is the highest honor a firefighter can receive for the quality of his work.
