On April 14, 2015, Minister of National Defence and Minister for Multiculturalism Jason Kenney officially welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Canada on behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper upon his arrival at the Canada Reception Centre in Ottawa. He was joined by Ministers Ed Fast and Pierre Poilievre, several Parliamentarians and many members of Ottawa’s Indo-Canadian community. This historic trip by Prime Minister Modi represents the first official visit of a sitting Indian Prime Minister in 42 years.
In anticipation of Prime Minister Modi’s visit, Minister Kenney stated, “We hope that the trade and investment focus of Prime Minister Modi’s visit will be leveraged by many of the successful Indo-Canadian entrepreneurs, to help to use the human bridge that they are between these two democracies.”
