Kabir Centre for Arts & Culture proudly presents
A Luminous concert of North Indian Classical music with the
Santoor player Sandip Chatterjee and the Tabla player Subhajyoti Guha

Montreal, October, 6th, 2017 – On October 14th, at the Théâtre du Grand Sault, at 6:30pm, Montrealers will have the chance to discover what the Hindustan Times of New Delhi has called a “perfect blend of grace and grandeur.” Indeed, a superb concert of classical music from the North of India, also called Hindustani music, will come to life with the brilliant santoor player Sandip Chatterjee, who besides having performed in a multitude of festivals in India and throughout the world, has been featured in numerous significant collaborations with Western musicians such as jazz guitarist Guy Strazz, saxophonist Claudio Giglio, Afro-Cuban percussionist Fulvio Farkas, and Swedish saxophonist Elin Larsson. Sandip Chatterjee will share the stage with the very talented tabla player Subhajyoti Guha, who carries an ancestral tradition to new heights!

Sandip Chatterjee is a young accomplished santoor player. The santoor is a trapezoidal musical instrument with a hundred hammered strings. He is the disciple of two Indian virtuosos: Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, santoor, and Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, classical Hindustani vocal. He is the torch-bearer of two important traditions simultaneously, the Maihar gharana and the Patiala gharana. His peculiarity during his performances is to successfully integrate these two traditions at once. The excellent tabla player Subhajyoti Guha comes from an Indian musical family where he started learning tabla at the age of five. The tabla is a North Indian percussion instrument consisting of a pair of drums. Having had several masters of music, he is now a disciple of Pandit Sankha Chatterjee. Recipient of several important prizes, in addition to performing in prestigious concerts and shows, Subhajyoti Guha has also expanded his horizons by exploring experimental music and other genres with his Toronto-based AMEYA group.
