Launch of Expo Entrepreneurs
The City of Montréal continues to stimulate
its entrepreneurial ecosystem
Montreal, January 25, 2018 – The City of Montreal was participating today in the very first edition of Expo Entrepreneurs, an event that unites the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Quebec. Over the past two days, more than 5,000 entrepreneurs have participated in unique meetings and workshops to start or propel their businesses. This unique event in Quebec offers aspiring and active entrepreneurs the opportunity to effectively access the entire Montreal entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“What makes the strength of a metropolis is the action of every citizen who, in his neighborhood, finds the means to realize his ideas and projects. That’s why I am particularly proud that the City of Montreal is partnering with Expo Entrepreneurs for the realization of this first federated gathering of entrepreneurs in Quebec. With Expo Entrepreneurs, the City of Montreal aims not only to stimulate entrepreneurship, but also to encourage more entrepreneurs in Montreal to take the leap and start a business, “said Mayor Valérie Plante.
According to Réseau M’s 2017 Quebec Entrepreneurial Index, 21% of Quebec adults are considering starting a business. On the other hand, only 9% of them take action by actually taking the necessary steps.
“Montreal wants to change this situation and position itself as the capital of those who want to undertake. Our Administration believes that Montrealers have the talent and energy to make this city the world capital of ideas and entrepreneurship. The holding of Expo Entrepreneurs fits directly in this direction and I welcome the presence and availability, during the two days of the event, of the team of SME MTL, the Montreal network of support, training and financing for entrepreneurs, “added the head of economic and commercial development, as well as government relations to the executive committee of the City of Montreal, Robert Beaudry.
Let’s not forget that the City of Montreal supports Expo Entrepreneurs up to a financial contribution of $ 400,000, an amount also offered by the Government of Quebec. Ten themes were discussed during these two days: business start-up, digital and technology, business management, collective entrepreneurship, women’s entrepreneurship and diversity, corporate innovation, leadership, international, financing and business transfer.
