Smart Cities Challenge launched by the Government of Canada

Montreal, February 5, 2018 – It is with pride that the mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, announces today the participation of the City of Montreal in the Federal Cities Challenge of Canada launched by the federal government. Recall that the Smart Cities Challenge was officially launched on November 23, 2017 and that municipalities have until April 24, 2018 to apply.

“The Smart Cities Challenge represents a unique opportunity to offer innovative solutions to the most important urban issues and to imagine the Montréal of tomorrow. It is with great enthusiasm that I invite Montrealers to identify the major issues that have the greatest impact on their quality of life, “said Mayor Valérie Plante.

Canada’s Smart Cities Challenge is a national competition open to communities of all sizes, including municipalities, regional governments and Aboriginal communities. The Challenge aims to encourage communities to adopt a results-based approach to improve the quality of life of their residents through innovation, data and connected technologies. Different prizes will be awarded as part of this competition and the City of Montreal could win a prize of up to $ 50 million.

To begin the process leading to the application of Montréal, the City will first consult the people of Montreal to learn about its issues, concerns and ideas.

“Citizens are at the heart of our vision of the smart city. Our participation in the Challenge aims to strengthen their influence and their ability to act within the city using connected data and technologies. We invite the public, businesses, organizations and public institutions to submit their concerns and ideas, “concluded the head of the smart city, information technology, and innovation to the executive committee, François W. Croteau.
